Train to become a driving instructor with Driving Lessons Birmingham School of Motoring. Courses are tailored to fit around your needs enabling you to continue to work during training, no loss of valuable income.

You must hold a full British or European driving licence, held for at least four years.
No criminal convictions
The ability to read a car number plate at a distance of 27.5 metres (90 feet)

The Part 1 exam
Your first exam is a multiple-choice test using a touch-screen computer. It contains one hundred questions on all aspects of driving, divided into four categories. You need to gain a minimum mark in each category, as well as an overall pass mark. The test also includes a hazard perception test which is similar to the one taken by learner drivers. But, as a potential instructor, you'll be expected to reach a much higher standard.

The Part 2 exam
This is a one-hour practical test of your driving ability, covering all types of road and traffic conditions. You'll need to perform a series of different manoeuvres and also complete an eyesight test and a series of safety questions. During the drive you'll be expected to demonstrate a high degree of technical skill, anticipation and awareness

The Part 3 exam
The final exam is a one-hour practical test, which examines your instructional ability and technique. You'll be asked to teach learners of varying levels of competence in a role-play situation.

Begin to earn as you learn on your trainee licence. Once you've passed your part 2 exam and had 40 hours of training you'll have your first opportunity to start teaching and earning. You can choose to apply for a trainee licence from the DSA and then you'll be able to take up a Driving Lessons Birmingham franchise and begin your new career. We will support you while you're on a trainee licence. We will provide you with additional training to assist you in preparing for the Part 3 exam.
